College Counseling Leaders "Discuss This"

Connecting on campus climate amidst the shifting political sands

With a dramatic shift in the occupants of the white house and the capitol at the beginning of the year - and a slew of executive orders targeting DEI policies, offices, and personnel - students and campus administrators face tremendous uncertainty about the path forward.

While the practical effects of the order are not clear, the impact on campus climate and culture is already underway and counseling center leaders are grappling with how to respond.

What are you hearing from students on your campus?  How is your leadership responding, or not responding?  And what fears or hopes do you have in your role?

Join host Kate Wolfe-Lyga and guests Dr. ValaRay Irvin, Executive Director, University Counseling Center, Southern University and A&M College, and Dr. Jeffrey Ng, Director, Counseling and Psychological Services, Fordham University, for an open, unrecorded conversation that fosters learning and support across campuses.

BetterMynd’s “College Counseling Leaders Discuss This Series” began in fall 2023 and is a recurring, remote (Zoom) meeting focused on bringing the community together for a focused participatory conversation on important topics in college counseling.

BetterMynd is providing this space because we believe the role of college counseling leadership on campus is critical and irreplaceable in ensuring students receive the mental health support they need.

Through this recurring series, we want to deepen our existing campus relationships, create new ones, and learn from this community of professionals.  No sales pitch (we promise), just Kate, community, and salient topics.
